about me

I first was introduced to strongman when I was 25 years old, working on the doors as security in Lancaster one of my friends mentioned he competes in the under 90kg strongman class. This was in 2010, lower division strongman classes was still relatively new so very unknown at the time. My friend suggested I try out the under 105kg weight class as the competition was being held locally in our local sports centre. I didn’t take much persuading to be honest, and very quickly started training with him and a few others and most of it was in driveways and gardens.

Competitions

My first competition I came 7th, but I won the yoke into duck walk medley which became something I was known for, my speed. I continued to compete in various u105kg competitions in 2010 and set my sights on winning them all in 2011.

Come 2011 I did just that, I had taken to strongman so much I invested in quite a bit of kit and between a close group of friends we had everything we needed and a great space at the time to train it as one of us was the manager of the local sports centre so we had a huge indoor space to train.

Keeping to the weight cut for 105kg was starting to get tough, I use to play football before I started strongman and when I stopped and begun strength training I was always going to struggle to keep my weight down.

Strength Training

In march 2012 I decided to do my last u105kg competition, I found myself competing in some decent open competitions and even earnt an invitation to the revamp of the open weight britains strongest man against likes of Laurence Shahlaei and Terry Hollands. I managed 4th place. Come WSM 2012 Laurence pulled out injured so I got my invitation.

After WSM 2012 I had my place among the top guys in Britain so got my invite for the following britains each year. Furthermore earning more sports at WSM 2013 and 2014.

Due to a back injury I didn’t compete for almost 2 years in 2015 and 2016. I almost accepted I would not compete again. I had a hernia that NHS wouldn’t fix until I decided to push for the operation.

Dedication Pays Off

2017 I came back to Britain’s Strongest Man with just the aim to complete the contest, injury free. I did just that and came 3rd place.

Since my return I have enjoyed doing well at various contests the past few years, even got my own unit for my private place to train which has helped. Me and my wife Kimber-lee have 2 children, Layla who is 4 and Tyler who is 17months old currently, with a 3rd due July 2019.  Having a fulltime job, trying to be the best I can at a sport and having a family is a very tough balance but I manage it quite well and have no complaints about anything, im always thankful for the things I have.

2019 I became Britains Strongest Man. Its something I always dreamed of doing and was never quite sure if I could peace everything together to do it. In doing so made the victory a very enjoyable one for me and my family.
